  2. This was one of my better images of the day. M42 was taken with the LX200GPS 10" f/10 with the 3.3 reducer.

  2. After spending 2 years working with the 416 I was ready to save some of the best images that I was able to acquire. This is a picture of M51 in all its glory it was two years in the making only because of the mechanical problems with the 416.

  2. This is another image that I took the same night as the one above. M104 was taken with a 3.3 reducer which I left on only because it was easier than to remove the reducer and have to refocus.

  2. This is another image of M42 processed in PhotoShop, much of the image was not focused properly and I was not able to get the guider to work. And if you look closely to just off center to the left a purple almost square spot, that is a piece of dust or something that got into the camera when Meade did their previous repair on the camera, it stayed there for quite a while until I sent it back to Meade again.

  2. This is one of the better images of M51 I reprocessed it on 12-17-04 to see if I could get any better image from the data this was it. You can see the dust particle a little clearer in this image

  2. Here is an image of the Dumbell M27 I had hoped this image would turn out better but as you can see there was no guiding which caused the lines at the top and left edge. This was a combined image of 5min each of LRGB X 5

  2. This was a five minute single image of M104, I was quite surprised to see the ice crystals that had formed on the chip.

The Learning Curve With the Meade 416XTE

  2. Here is an image of the M57 Ring nebula, this is what happens when the color wheel refuses to rotate properly. I have to constantly fiddle with the color wheel mating with the camera. If you leave it too loose it does not make contact if you tighten it too much it jams the wheel. Mead finally fixed the problems with some stand offs added to the screw to keep them from binding the case.

  2. Here is an image of the The Crab Nebula M1 this was my first attempt of M1 with the 416 and of course there was no guiding but the color wheel was fixed and the dust particle has been removed.

The images here are the first images gathered with the Meade 416XTE. it has been a long up hill learning curve with the 416. I purchased the 416 in May of 2000 with absolutely no experience with the LX200GPS 10" f/10 or the camera, I was assured that the learning curve would be short and easy, it was neither. I did not save any of the images between 2000 and 2003 because there were so many problems with the camera that I was not able to save anything that was worth looking at. Unless you like to see what a misaligned chip looks like, or what it looks like when the shutter does not work properly, or when the chip ices up because the desiccant no longer works.
